- 2 slices of white bread
- 2 slices of ham
- 2 slices of Gruyère cheese
- 1 tablespoon of butter, softened
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- 1 egg
- 1/2 cup of béchamel sauce
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Spread Dijon mustard on one side of each slice of bread.
- Layer a slice of Gruyère cheese and a slice of ham on top of the mustard side of one bread slice. Place the second slice of bread on top to assemble the sandwich.
- In a pan over medium heat, melt butter and cook the sandwich until golden and crispy, about 2-3 minutes per side.
- Transfer the sandwich to a baking sheet, top with béchamel sauce, and a sprinkle of cheese. Bake for 5 minutes or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Meanwhile, fry an egg in a pan until the whites are set but the yolk remains runny.
- Place the fried egg on top of the baked sandwich, season with salt and pepper, and serve immediately.
