Description

Shrimp Dirty Rice is a hearty Creole dish that brings together succulent shrimp, flavorful ground sausage, and perfectly seasoned rice, complemented by a rich blend of Cajun spices. Ingredients

  • 1 lb shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 2 cups cooked white rice
  • 1/2 lb ground sausage
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 1 bell pepper, chopped
  • 2 stalks celery, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon Cajun seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth
  • 1/4 cup green onions, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add ground sausage and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon. Remove the sausage and set aside.
  2. In the same skillet, sauté chopped onion, bell pepper, celery, and garlic for 4–5 minutes, or until the vegetables are softened.
  3. Stir in the Cajun seasoning, smoked paprika, and optional cayenne pepper.
  4. Add the shrimp to the skillet and cook for 3–4 minutes, until pink and opaque.
  5. Return the cooked sausage to the skillet. Add chicken broth and scrape up any browned bits from the bottom of the pan.
  6. Stir in the cooked rice, mixing thoroughly with the other ingredients. Cook for an additional 5 minutes to let the flavors meld.
  7. Remove from heat and stir in green onions and parsley. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
